About DadAtHome

This page provides some background to the creative entity behind DadAtHome.

I started out as a normal bloke - playing full-on body contact sport, partying like there was no tomorrow (often wishing there wasn't when it did arrive), working in physically demanding jobs, and, being 'manly' - especially when around my bloke mates.

I'm not quite sure how the change happened.

First, I suppose, there was the body breakdown from the sport and the work - mostly from an accident at work.

So then I had to change careers - which fortunately I still had some brains intact, so I got re-educated into desk-based work that also included getting out and about - which was easy to achieve as I was running my own business in this new career.

With my lovely life partner with me, we made reasonable progress until our first child came along.

Then I seemed to be more flexible in my work than her - especially as one of our contract jobs turned into a full-time salaried position for her.

At about the same time, my part-time lecturing job finished and we thought it was a good time to reposition our business from service to goods based - seemed to be more future in goods-based, as 'passive' income was more likely to result.

But that change took longer than we anticipated.

Then by the time our second child came along, I was the one with less commitments outside the home - which really translated into not generating income for the house - so I got the 'home job'.

Now, I really enjoy being home and being the main carer for our kids during week days in particular, as well as mixing in a bit of enterprise for future income generation, but I freely admit the role is a bit different/difficult - especially as a bloke I have had little social or educational training in this area - and the need to still be a bloke to do house maintenace/renovations and other blokely tasks.

So, what this site is about is to share with other people, my and our experiences regarding me being a DadAtHome - and all that that involves.

PS - it would be great to get feedback from you cybertravellers.
