This page is all about DenisLurix.

Well, really it's about how my (pen)name came about, or more accurately, what my name means.

But first, I refer to myself as a 'poet-lyricist' because some of my works are poems, some are lyrics (awaiting a musician or two) and some are both.

Now back to my name.

'Denis' comes from my high school days.

It was given to me by 'Chopper', who after knowing me for only a few weeks (I was an 'import' from another local high school and had changed schools to complete my final two years), reckoned I had two personalitities - one able, the other a bit foolish.

I suppose it was better than being called 'schizo' or similar.

Anyway, the name Denis stuck like glue and continued after my school days.

I even developed a 'denis' signature, that I initially used for signing truckload dispatches at a job I was then doing, but later I started to sign some of my verse as 'denis'.

So for my pen name, Denis was an obvious choice, but I wanted a 'second' name as well.

"Lurix" was finally settled on because of a number of concepts/words that it contained.

First, it is a play on the word 'lyrics' - as that is where my writing is focused, both by evolution and design.

"Lurix" also contains a bit of 'lure' - as I want to entice or attract through the verse - for sex and love are two very powerful, popular and proven components of literature.

There is also a resemblance with the sound of "Lurix" with the name of a world famous manufacturer of condoms - the sex/love thing again.

Laureate is also alluded to within "Lurix" - not that I see myself as being accorded such a position in reality, more for the origins of the word laureate - having a laurel wreath bestowed on oneself as an honour for and recognition of an achievement - so what if I only have one bestowed on me by myself, or more accurately, a little bit of one within my name.

The 'rix' bit reflects that I like to play 'tricks' with words - to enhance/expand meanings and to imbed rythym within the verse itself.

Completing the word with the letter 'x' was also important, as I see 'x' as a 21stCentury letter, in fact a letter that has strength across time, as well as the current popularity with the coming to 'power' of Generation X.

Overall, the multiple, intertwined meanings within "Lurix", reflect what I aim for in my works - multiple, intertwined meanings/messages, either mine or as interpreted by others.
