Squeezing Treatments for Blackhead Acne
by DrQark

WARNING
Squeezing zits can be and usually is very painful,
often creating more immediate term visual mess than just having the acne
and can create scar-dimples that may be visible for months or even years afterwards.

The Cleanliness for General Acne Prevention techniques should be used as the first line of prevention and the preferred method of treatment.

The information about zit squeezing on this page and related links is to assist those who wish to squeeze their zits, do so in a manner that significantly raises the chances of success, while minimising the possibility of long term scaring.

This page should also be read in conjunction with the general guidelines for squeezing zits

SPECIFIC TECHNIQUES FOR SQUEEZING BLACKHEAD ACNE

For the face, favour the cleaning technique wherever possible.

Blackhead acne is perhaps the easiest type of acne to squeeze, as its waxy nature means it often comes out as one piece and leaves a fine seal inside the skin which significantly restricts any bleeding - so much so that a small hole into the skin can sometimes be seen after the blackhead comes out.

Using at least one finger/thumb nail is preferrable.

Get enough of the skin around the blackhead so that the squeezing pressure is applied under the visible top.

Remember, pain IS part of this process, especially when the zit (rapidly) exits the skin - so when you're ready, squeeze firmly with increasing pressure as needed.

Blackheads usually exit with a rapid wriggle motion.

When the blackhead comes out, squeeze it between two finger/thumb nails to understand the feel of the gunk that it is - as similar but smaller amounts of this type of gunk can often form further below whiteheads.

Apply a dressing if required, but just keeping the surface clean will often allow the resulting small hole to heal rapidly enough.
