This page is all about "MrIgCognito".

Well, really it's about how my (pen)name came about, or more accurately, what my name means.

First of all, the names 'MrIgCognito', MrIg' and 'Ig' are original and along with all my writings are subject to copyright.

Secondly, I am a male - no surprises there given the 'Mr' bit.

Thirdly, I'll focus on the 'IgCognito' bit.

It originally started out as "Mr Nobody", due to my desire for anonymity AND acknowledging that I am a 'norm', that is, just a normal bloke carrying on with his married-with-kids life, without claiming special status or favours.

However, 'nobody' seemed a bit negative and demeaning of what I wanted to achieve with a 'pen name'.

So I thought that 'incognito' was more appropriate, as it literally means false name, concealing actual identity or being a pretend identity. However, 'incognito' would not be very unique - something I wanted, as well as something with a bit more depth.

©IgCognito started as a mispronounciation, but I soon realised that it carried all the aspects I liked of 'incognito', plus many more.

For instance, 'ig' conveyed a bit of ignorance - something that someone with a 'legend-in-own-mind' philosophy realises is true about themselves, as well as being true about most if not all other people - I mean, how many people know everything about everything?

So my name acknowledges in-built ignorance and indicates that 'a bit' of my writing does come from or conveys ignorance.

I also liked the 'cog' bit of the name, as it conveyed me being just a cog in the wheel of life - again, a situation most if not all people are in.

More over, I am a moving cog - moving myself, moving other cogs and other cogs moving me - which also conveys the inter-connectivity of life.

Then there's the 'cognit' bit which is the dominant component of the word cognition - which is awareness of oneself and one's surroundings, being able to remember ideas or concieve thought, or perceive things.

Similarly, there is 'gnito', a bit like as in magneto - an electrical generator based on the movement of magnets, most commonly encountered or used to provide the spark that ignites internal combustion engines.

That's something similar that I aim to do with my writings - ignite thought in other people's minds and may be even spark them into action.

Ok, so there is also 'nit' - as in nitwit - a silly or stupid person.

Yes, so I'm not perfect and sometimes do or say silly things - I know that, and now, so do you.

There is also 'it' - an alternative name for a person or thing other than it's real or usual name. Something akin to a pseudonym or pen name.

And ?finally there is 'to' - like 'get to it' - which is what I am doing.

So there I am - or rather my name is - and of course, part/s of the real me.
